Do your children sleep well? If so, you are very lucky! I think a significant proportion of parents are battling tiredness as a result of the night-time wakings of their little ones.
When I hear some parents stories I realise that our situation could be worse. I know parents who get very little unbroken sleep each night, as their children are basically nocturnal. Baby does sleep and sometimes this sleep is unbroken for twelve hours, but it has no pattern. She can sleep through for four days and then be up twice a night for the next three.
So, when I was told about the Johnson’s 3-step routine challenge I jumped at the chance to be involved. The prospect of potentially more Mama sleep was very appealing.
What is the Johnson’s 3-step routine?
Well, it is a multi-sensory bedtime routine which Johnson’s believe can help to improve baby’s sleep. Perfect!
- STEP ONE, Bath: To start the routine, give your child a lovely warm bath using JOHNSON’S® Bedtime Bath or Wash. Bath-time can be an extremely educational time, not just time to get clean.
- STEP TWO, Massage: After the bath, while making sure you baby is warm, use the JOHNSON’S® Bedtime Oil or Lotion, warming it in your hands before using it to massage your baby’s skin. You can find out more details on how to massage properly here.
- STEP THREE, Quiet Time: In order to sleep well, your baby needs to wind down before bedtime. You can use various methods to aid this relaxation, singing, music or reading. As part of the challenge we have been given ‘Good Night Sarah’ book, which was created by the makers of JOHNSON’S® to read during quiet time. The key is to do activities that do not over-stimulate your baby. Then, when your baby is sleepy, you can put them down as normal.
The challenge involves us tracking Baby’s sleeping habits (using the form below) for a week, then we will follow the Johnson’s 3-Step routine, again logging all the sleep information. At the end of the two weeks, we will be able to see if there were any benefits to using this new routine.
I am really looking forward to finding out if this routine can help Baby to sleep more consistently and past 6am would be wonderful! I will check back in in two weeks and share the results! Wish us luck!
