Reading Eggs is an online early learning resource, created by expert educators with over 30 years of experience. Aimed at children ages 4-8 it’s designed to teach them how to read or to advance their existing reading skills. The online games and activities are easy to follow, exceptionally engaging for young children and self-paced too. Reading Eggs really does make learning to read fun and interesting!
There are various activities and lessons within the system that teach reading and maths, as well as fun games and stories. The dashboard is bright, colourful and easy to navigate. Children earn eggs or seeds, which they can then spend to play games and activities.
The lessons tie into the five pillars of reading, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. However, it’s not intended to replace traditional classroom learning, but rather add to this learning. Each lesson builds on a concept taught in the previous one and feature colourful, fun characters and interactive animation to ensure the kids stay engaged.
Children can take a placement quiz when they start Reading Eggs to ensure they start at the right level.
Reading Eggs can be used by teachers as well as parents, as you can add a single student or a whole class. There’s a function to print letters that you can send home to parents, as well as other reporting functions. Parents can also access an account to track their child’s progress at no additional cost. Each child’s avatar can be personalised and they’re motivated by the incentive and rewards. Every completed activity is rewarded with golden eggs. These eggs are kept in their “eggy bank” and they can use to buy reward games, clothes for their avatar, or accessories for their virtual house.
AVA’S EXPERIENCE WITH READING EGGS
Ava is 4 and a half so just at the start of her education. She finds maths easy at the moment, but hasn’t really started to read. She began at lesson one and has really enjoyed the Reading Eggs programme (as you can see from her face!)
She loved the characters and the interactive nature of the programme was a real winner for her. She has her name listed on the dashboard and if you have more than one kid you can just add them all and also use the programme on different devices. All the lessons auto save their position, which is a great feature.
The learning builds up very logically and Ava absolutely adored it. Her face was a picture, half concentration and half total excitement when she got things right. I know it’s going to really help her as she starts her French school, she’ll be able to keep up with her English through Reading Eggs.
I would highly recommend Reading Eggs, it is such an amazing resource.
