Losing 7 STONE and what it has to do with YOUR DREAMS
One of my favourite quotes of all time is, ‘She believed she could, so she did’. I love it so much that I’m considering having it as a tattoo on my wrist. You see, for me, it sums up so much. As a psychology graduate, I have long-since realised the power of the mind on our behaviours and actions. I also realise that most of us barely scratch the surface when utilising this power. We have endless excuses. I don’t have the time. I wish I had more willpower. I have kids. I have a job, as well as my blog. These excuses act as roadblocks which stop us reaching our full potential. Totally self-sabotage.

The truth is, excluding becoming President, a Rocket Scientist or maybe Brain Surgeon, we can achieve pretty much all we want to, if we totally commit and focus on our dreams. The key is, we have to WANT it enough. If we don’t, maybe it’s someone else’s dream that we feel should be ours, we will never strive hard enough or be focused enough to achieve it. You see…
She believed she could so she did
And so can you.
Your dreams don’t have to be huge, although I think everyone’s should be. That’s the point of a dream after all! Whatever you wish could come true in your life, you can make it happen by believing in yourself and your ability to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
You see everyday I hear people saying, ‘if only I could do this’, ‘if only I had more time to do that’ and I have previously written about my belief that we don’t need more time. What we need is more focus.
It might be that we are afraid to live our dreams and these excuses come in quite useful. There’s nothing like a-get-out-of-jail-card to stop yourself from actually achieving what you want to achieve. And lets not forget it’s what YOU want to achieve. There’s nothing to say you have to want to achieve anything, but if you do, then it’s time to
Hey Aby, you mentioned 7 stone, where does that come in?
Well, you see I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life and although I tried many diets and weight loss programs, it always remained a struggle. One which I made excuses for on a daily basis. I was so tired I couldn’t do low-calorie. I was going on holiday so I can’t diet now. I had a conference coming up, so it wasn’t a good time. Maybe I’d lose some weight, start to feel better and convince myself that being I was happy still being overweight. I could almost convince myself I was happy in my own skin. I was just making excuses and I was getting out of jail with them.
Then something changed. With a year until my 40th birthday, I decided that I needed to do this. I WANTED to do this and most of all importantly I COULD do this. From the end of May 2016 to Christmas 2016, I lost almost 7 stone. I lost 7 stone, because I believed I could do it for the first time. I have no more willpower than anyone else. I haven’t got any miraculous weight loss pills. I’ve just decided that I could and so I did.
No, it’s not easy, but it’s totally possible when you commit to making your dreams come true and focus on your dream every day. What I guess I’m trying to say is, don’t give up on yourself. Don’t let yourself off the hook because it means an easier road ahead. Instead commit to your dreams and make them happen.
They believed they could, so they did

Love this Aby. Sheer determination and focus should never be under-estimated. It’s also one of my favourite quotes!
You are so so inspiring lovely – I’m so impressed by your determination – WELL DONE!! x x
nearly 7 stone in as many months is astounding! Have you done a post about how you achieved it (practically as well as the willpower), you look fabulous!!
Wow that’s a huge amount of weight loss in such a short amount of time! I have always said, when you want to do a thing, more than you want to do the other things that prevent you from doing it then you will achieve it. If you want to do the other thing more then you won’t. Eh, if you want to eat the bagel more than lose weight then you won’t. Its simple in theory but more complicated in practice when goals take a long time but things that take us off course often have immediate satisfaction. I love that quote too – it was a birth affirmation I stuck on my wall for my home birth. I’ve also considered it as a tattoo.
So proud of you for doing this it’s one of my goals and I love seeing another normal mum achieve it. I was so close last year after losing 5 stone but the pain of arthritis before I knew what it was it me so down I soon piled over half back on again. I feel motivated again now, I can’t fix the damage but I can make it easier on my body by being lighter so I will do it! Bet you love shopping now and having photos that don’t make you wince too, not to mention feeling healthier. Love the tattoo idea too, it’s a must! Xx
An inspiring read! I think we all make excuses for ourselves when we feel like we can’t achieve something.
Amazing achievement, well done. You really did believe you could and you did 😉
You are so right. I have dreams BUT I just cant see a way of acheiving them despite all my focus.
Very similar to one of my favourite comments; ‘she turned her can’ts into cans and her dreams into plans’ 🙂
Really needed to read this tonight. i’ve lost my mojo this week (went too hard last week and was so productive I guess I was always going to flop a bit!) and just feel a bit flat. But you just show me what we can do if we really really try. Well done on such an amazing weight loss. I’m so glad I’ve found your blog and your amazing passionate personality. xx
You’ve done amazing both in your weight loss and your business – it’s a pleasure to watch you go for it and own it! Much love x
Wow, I really needed to read this today!! Thank you!! That is an amazing achievement!! I know how good it feels to lose weight, I’ve previously lost 3 and a half stone but since having E I’ve gained nearly double that and I’m not happy about it!! I make excuses and eat for comfort, I keep waiting for something to click for this and my PND recovery but I just need to pull myself together and do it!! My mum had always said if you want something badly enough you can do anything you put your mind to!! Xxxx
Wow Aby.. this is inspiring x

Thank you x
I know this is an older post, but goodness I needed to read this today. I’m overweight, which psychology holds me back and I’m having a midlife existential crisis of mammoth proportions! I need to stop procrastinating and just get on with it!
