Blogging can be tough. We always seem to be juggling and grabbing time here and there to keep all our balls in the air and make sure our blog is ticking over. It can be super difficult to find time to actually grow our blogs. I want to show you that with a little planning and focus you can use these spare minutes here and there to take action to grow your blog, not just to sit in the loo eating biscuits while your kid is baby sat by Topsy and Tim (just me?!).
So, I’m going to share some great things you can do for your blog in a variety of time slots. All of these things will help you to boost your blog, so let’s get cracking.
Grow your blog in 5-30 minutes
Got 5 minutes?
- Respond to comments on your own blog posts.
- Reply to comments on your Instagram pictures (remember Instagram LOVE engagement and this includes your responses to people).
- Retweet someone’s post on Twitter (as many as you can in 5 minutes).
- Comment on someone else’s blog post. You can use Feedly to keep track of the blogs you follow.
- Follow 3 new accounts on Instagram or Twitter (use relevant hashtags to find people).
- Sign up to a free blogging course. My 5 day productivity course starts on 12th September!
- Update a popular post from your archive.
- Like and comment on five Instagram accounts.
- Add your top three posts into your sidebar (you can use the Cyclone slider widget).
- Go to a friend’s Facebook blog page and like all of the statuses.
- Click your social media icons and make sure they all go to the right places.
- Go into one of your posts and try to share it, make sure your Twitter share button has your @handle in it! (this is my pet hate).
- Send an email to a PR you have worked with in the past to see if there are any current opportunities for your blog.
- Record an Instagram story.
10 minutes?
- Update & reshare the post you wrote on this day a year ago (if relevant).
- Update your ‘About me’ or ‘Work with me’ page.
- Declutter your sidebar.
- Set up an RSS newsletter – this post will help.
- Organise your Pinterest boards – move them around and update covers if necessary.
- Tidy up your blog categories.
- Schedule tweets for the week (I use social oomph*).
- Delete email subscribers who haven’t opened your last 10 emails. Don’t forget at some point you will be paying for your subscribers and so you need to make sure you only pay for people who are engaged in you and your content.
- Add two email opt in forms to your site. Which is the most visited page on your blog? Consider putting one there (I use Convertkit for my mailing list).
- Make sure your social media links are clear, consider adding them to your footer too.
15 minutes?
- Write a draft for two new posts, bullet points will do. Don’t get it perfect, get it written.
- Set up an editorial calendar using the Editorial Calendar plugin or even pen and paper!
- In your calendar add at least two weeks of content ideas.
- Add a pop up to encourage people to sign up for your blog newsletter.
- Pin high quality posts from other people to your Pinterest boards.
- Add one month of post ideas to your editorial calendar (for real, you can do it!).
- Schedule a month of tweets / pins / Facebook posts to promote content from your blog archives.
- Create a pin template to give all your pins a consistent look.
30 minutes to spare?
- Create a landing page for your email list.
- Write a case study about an area of your blog to help with brand work.
- Set up a Start Here page, highlighting your popular content and signposting new readers to the areas of your blog you wish to highlight.
- Create a content upgrade for one popular and useful post (i.e add a printable or add in a vlog to explain a point further).
- Improve your skills by watching a webinar or a TED talk.
- Create an email template for your newsletter. This will speed up production of your newsletter each week.
- Do a Facebook Live.
- Pitch to a brand you love. This might help too!
- Set up a reader survey using Survey Monkey or similar.
Here are some sure fire ways to grow your blog. Do you have any quick growth fixes?

Fab tips again Aby, I really need to catch up on some of the small jobs!
Love all of these suggestions. Going to keep these in mind!
Great post thanks for the advice!
Well this is something I have to print off and stick to. My blog is crawling because I don’t promote enough.
I love these suggestions huni, thank you. Totally book marking this one. But please can no one do an Instagram Story while sat on the toilet listening to Topsy & Tim!!! xx
These are such great tips Aby, I honestly need to follow some more I think. I am so badly struggling with time at the moment- my time management skills absolutely SUCK and I feel a lot of pressure. xx
There are some really great tips here that I’m going to use! I don’t think I use my spare time (ha! whats that?) wisely when it comes to blogging but I’m sure some of these will help 🙂
Love this – in fact I have just done a couple of your 5 minute ones now!

Fab! 🙂 xx
Such brilliant tips Aby, so helpful. You are so right about instagram – engagement is majorly the key over there! I need your twitter tips lady! H x
Wowsers, fantastic list! I better get going….x
Great ideas – I’ll be nabbing a few for my blog! #thelist
Love this! Will definitely be trying to spend my free time doing some of these things, I don’t usually sit on the loo eating biscuits though, I’m more likely to be hiding in the kitchen cupboard scoffing my face haha.xx #TheList
You are completely awesome, always love your tips xx #THELIST
Super helpful…especially the 5 min ideas! Thanks Aby x
So much helpful info here. Unfortunately, being so new to blogging, these things seem to take me a lot longer than the allocated time slots. I definitely need to work on speeding myself up! But I’m grateful to have a list of jobs to get tackling! Thank you! #TheList
Thanks for sharing nice tips definitely I will use most of them
I love this – I’m going to start with some of the 5 minute ones today and carry on working my way through! I love a list!
Some great ideas here. You’ve also reminded me I must get on top of my email list. Thanks for hosting #TheList
Great tips – some I do already and some I need to do more often! #thelist
These are great tips! I try to do the 5 minute ones when I have 5 minutes so that is encouraging! I just struggle with finding more than 5 minutes! #thelist
Most of my reads come from Facebook. I’d add that posting to your FB several times a day with something quick or witty can keep people engaged there without them having to spend a lot of time #thelist
Wow…you are a machine! Fab ideas thank you! #thelist
Really good tips and a great reminder to focus on what you are doing to get the most out of blogging. I am going to try my best! #thelist
There’s some great tips in there. I think we all know the ones that we need to do, but don’t often think we have time. So good to see them split down into easy to see chunks of work.
OMGhow do you do it? I ❤️ the idea of a start here page and I also still need to make a template for my pins. Must do this! Thank you #thelist
Once again, an absolutely brilliant, helpful list of advice. It sets the head spinning sometimes just how many things there are to do, but breaking it down into small tasks really helps. Thank you again Aby. #TheList
Fab list Aby! I love the content, but also the format and approach to it – so practical! Ill definitely be saving this to my favourites and working my way through it 🙂 Emily #TheList
This is great – love these tips! I always feel like I can’t get blogging stuff done because I ‘don’t have time’ and am always waiting for a magical chunk of time – which rarely happens of course! I’m a bit of a perfectionist and never want to feel like I’m rushed, but I’m getting better at just seizing moments here and there and grabbing time. This list is perfect – and shows me what I CAN do in the little bits and pieces of time I have – thanks Aby. x
Such a helpful post, thank you or sharing. love that its broken down into the amount of time you have available. x
This is beyond brilliant! There are so many times when I have only 10 minutes and think it isn’t long enough so end up playing Candy Crush ha ha! Now I have no excuses to not be productive 🙂 Genius post x x #TheList
Super useful thank you!!! Great time fillers for my lunch break at work, during an afternoon cup of tea (with obligatory cake obviously!) and after the little man has gone to bed <3
You’re right, it’s so hard to find the time to actually grow your blog. I really need to sit down and update some old posts, and also fine-tune my ‘evergreen’ posts #thelist
Thanks for all these tips. I always find them so useful and spot on! I work full time and really struggle to fit in “blog work”, even though I would love to grow my blog, but somehow, between work, family, household etc. I struggle so much. These are really good, accessible and doable tips, and I will try to implement them step by step, starting with the 5 minute option. #thelist
