Baby will turn one on 30th March, I can hardly believe it. We haven’t had her christened, as it is not our belief. So we would like to have a party for friends and family to celebrate her birthday and the fact that our wish came true.
As an event organiser by trade, I have already been filling my notebook with lots of ideas. We will be on quite a strict budget, but our wedding & honeymoon checked in at £3.5k, so I am good at seeking out a bargain.
We have hired a village hall local to our house and I have decided on an Alice In Wonderland theme, as I think it will be fun to do. Hopefully it will be colourful and fun for Baby. We should get lots of good photo’s too!
CAKE – My first challenge is to make the cake. Now I can bake, but I don’t usually do decoration and icing. Which means that my chosen cake is probably quite a significant challenge, but here is my aim.
Shouldn’t be too difficult?! Well I will show you my efforts on a future post. I also like the idea of making cupcakes with different Alice images on the top, but I think that might be a cake too far. Can you have too much cake?
CAKE SMASH – This idea is becoming increasingly popular. A large cupcake is decorated and given to the baby to smash up whilst being photographed. I think it could make for some great photo’s and so will be giving it a go.
FOOD – The party will take place over lunch time and so we will provide a finger buffet with all the usual suspects for the adults and lots of baby foods and nibbles too.
DECORATION – I am going to decorate the room with tissue paper pom poms, playing card bunting and various signs. All homemade. Making everything as colourful and fun as possible.
I also like the idea of making cut out characters, which should provide another good photo opportunity.
ENTERTAINMENT – I really want a face painter, I know the children will be too young to sit still for too long, but I have wanted Baby to have her face painted for ages (she was too young throughout the summer). I will take various toys for them to play with. A play tunnel and a ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ sign will be in keeping with the theme.
PARTY BAGS – Brown paper bags with a playing card attached to them and the children’s name on the front. They will include a bottle of bubbles, some sort of healthy bar/snack and some other bits depending on the age of the children.
KEEPSAKES – I will make a memory box and include various items from the day. I also want to create a photo album containing only her Birthday portrait, that we add to each year. Another idea is to have a memory book for guests to write in or a photo with a large surround so people can write round the edge (a friend did this for her wedding and it was lovely). I’ve still got to iron out the creases on these ideas.
INVITATIONS – I have designed an Alice themed invitation. Using a heart background, some Alice inspired text and the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat images.
GAMES/ACTIVITIES – I like the idea of having a few games/activities, such a guess the number of jelly beans (with a prize for the winner). I need to think of some more – any suggestions?
Well that’s how my planning is going so far. I have LOADS to do, yikes! Any party suggestions will be gratefully received.
