First Proper Easter Egg Hunt

Baby has recently developed a love of chocolate.  It wasn’t that long ago that she wouldn’t touch it, but now I think it would make her top five of favourite things in the world.  So to say she was excited about Easter was a bit of an understatement.

This Easter is the first that she has been aware of celebrations and can join in.  She was born on Easter weekend in 2013, the subsequent years she has been too young to enjoy Easter properly.

Due to the wet weather our plans of an Easter egg hunt round our garden were shelved in favour of a mini hunt round the living room.  It sounds a bit lame, but armed with a little basket she had a ball collecting all her little treats.  Then despite the warnings of some heavy rain, we pressed on and set off to Wellington Country Park’s Easter Egg Hunt.

The skies were grey, but apart from a little drizzle the weather wasn’t too bad.  Off we went with our map, armed with pencils to record the shapes on the various Easter eggs, which would be dotted around the huge park.

Baby loves a map!

It wasn’t until we were right at the far end of the park and beginning to head back that the storm arrived. Wow!  I haven’t been outside in many storms that bad.  Poor Baby, I don’t think she has ever experienced hail, yet it arrived and was lashing her in the face. Add in thunder and lightening and the result was quite a scared little girl.  Mr Hubby and I took it in turns to carry her back to the main site, stopping en route to shelter a little when the storm took on unbelievable proportions.

A lovely family who had experienced the worst of the weather with us, had split up to get the rest of the clues and they kindly told us the answers to the last three, which saved us trekking further in our soaking clothes.  Baby then got to collect her prize (mini eggs) from the Easter Bunny.  This was such a surprise as she is usually scared of people dressed up as animals, but she even went up for a hug!

After a quick game of Connect 4, which she adored, we went to watch the Big Top Circus.

It was very red inside the tent, hence the strange colour of these photos, I wanted to include them anyway as the performers were really good.

Baby sat gripped through the whole performance.

I don’t think I have ever seen someone ride such a tall unicycle!  He did a spot of juggling while he was up there too.

Then jumped over some volunteers!

These brothers from Ghana were so talented.  I can barely walk across the room without banging into something! These guys had such amazing balancing skills.

Obviously no show would be complete without the Easter bunny hula hooping…..

Baby’s favourite performer was this fabulous aerial artist. No ropes or safety nets, just LOTS of skill.

After a finale from the brothers, we made our way to the face painting area.  After almost 3 years of refusing face paints, after her friend’s party, she loves having it done so much.

We made our way to the cafe for lunch in the hope that we would dry off, but by now the cold had got into our bones and none of us were very comfortable.  The lure of a warm house and dry clothes got the better of us and we set off for home.

There was just one last chance for a picture before we bundled in the car!

Before bed Baby said ‘Mama, this is the best day ever’!  It is her birthday on Wednesday, I think her mind will be well and truly blown!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.

Last year her birthday was on Good Friday so this year it’s just all about her (although she was born on her Uncles birthday). I love the pics of Baby with the umbrella and also the one where she is sitting with bunny, suer cute (as always). Happy Easter and happy birthday Baby!

  2. It sounds like a lovely day, bar the weather. It has been so bad this weekend hasn’t it? That easter bunny is slightly scary so well done to Baby for giving him a hug! I guess anyone is your friend when they have chocolate! 😉 She looks gorgeous in her outfit with her brolly and I love her face paint too. Hope you have had a lovely rest of Easter too. x

  3. We’ve had so many easter egg hunts around the house over the years due to the weather! The outdoors one looked fun despite the crazy weather!
